Trinity, Texas Lutheran football: The area rivals and future Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opponents battle at 6 p.m. Saturday at Matador Stadium in Seguin.

Trinity men's soccer: Trinity vaulted to the top spot in the NSCAA Division III poll after beginning the season with wins over No. 9 Texas-Tyler and Mississippi College along with a 3-2 overtime victory over Willamette on Labor Day.

Brian Hines had two assists and three goals, including the game-winner, against Willamette.

Incarnate Word women's cross country: The Cardinals started the season by edging Trinity for the Alamo City Opener title.

St. Anthony product Irma Garza led UIW with a second-place finish, while Marine Vaillant (third), Stephanie Glatt (fifth) of Stacey, Rainy Castaneda (sixth) and Katlyn Savage (eighth) of Boerne Champion also placed in the top 10.

St. Mary's volleyball: After battling injuries during her freshman campaign, Kelsey Huber appears to be back at full strength this season.

The sophomore from MacArthur had 33 kills in the Rattlers' 2-2 start.

Allie Murray of Reagan leads the Rattlers with 79 assists.

Corywn Ritch: St. Mary's women's soccer ? The Rattlers' coach earned his 100th career win with a 3-1 victory over Wayland Baptist last week.

Vanessa Moreno: Trinity women's cross country ? Won the Alamo City Opener with a time of 15:17.00.

Jeff Hayes: Trinity men's soccer ? Junior from MacArthur was named Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference defensive player of the week after pacing a unit that allowed one goal in the first two matches. He also scored a goal in each match.

Postcard home

Kelsey Bruce, Dallas Baptist cross country

Bruce, a sophomore from Brackettville, was named the Heartland Conference runner of the week.

She finished 12th at the Baylor Twilight Invitational, completing the 4-kilometer race in a school-record 14:14.1.

Behind Bruce, the Lady Patriots finished fifth behind four Division I schools ? host Baylor, SMU, Texas A&M and TCU.

Kaelen Valdez: Angelo State volleyball ? Junior outside hitter from O'Connor was second on her team in digs (43) and kills (33) as the Rambelles opened the season with victories over Southeastern Oklahoma, St. Mary's, St. Edward's and Southwestern Oklahoma State. The 4-0 start propelled the Rambelles to No. 9 in the NCAA Division II national rankings, the program's first top-10 rating.

Kacy Griffin: Colorado State-Pueblo volleyball ? Junior setter from Reagan averaged 11.12 assists per set as the Thunderwolves started a season 4-0 for the first time since 1997. She leads the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in total assists with 189.

Megan Lee: Texas Lutheran volleyball ? Sophomore libero from Steele was tabbed the American Southwest Conference West Division defensive player of the week after averaging 5.93 digs per set over four matches, including a match-high 24 in a win over LeTourneau.
