Has Sony Pictures just pulled a Lisbeth Salander?

Salander is, of course, the kick-ass computer hacker who is the heroine of Steig Larsson?s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo trilogy. And a trailer for David Fincher?s film adaptation, coming this December, has just hit the web. It provides the first look at how Fincher is translating the book to the screen, and the results are pretty rivetting. He appears to be following the outline of Larsson?s novel while shooting in a hard-edge style closer to his Se7en than The Social Network.

What?s curious, though, is the source of the trailer. A number of the web sites that have eagerly picked it up describe it as a trailer that is playing in Europe, where it was illegally camcorded. It does looks as if it was secretly recorded in a movie theater, and many sites are linking to a copy that was uploaded on YouTube on Saturday.

But wait a minute. Could this all actually be a clever viral campaign on Sony?s part? For starters, the trailer is preceded by an MPAA red-band, advising that the preview has been approved by the MPAA for mature audiences. But why would theaters in Europe be showing an MPAA advisory which is aimed at U.S. moviegers?

Also, while the trailer gives the appearance of being filmed in a theater with some sort of handheld device -- the trailer is off-center and appears to shake as it begins -- it?s actually a pretty good copy. There?s no audience noise, and once the trailer kicks in the framing settles down and the sound is good.

Which all leads to the question: Was the trailer actually planted by a Sony operative? The YouTube version that is getting a lot of clicks belongs to a user who is identified as being in the Netherlands and who joined YouTube May 28, the same day the trailer was uploaded. And so far, it doesn?t look as if Sony has not moved quickly to have it removed.

Offering U.S. fans a first look at the movie via an ?unauthorized? trailer can only add to its cachet. And since its a red-band trailer -- presumably because of a glimpse of nudity -- leaking it via YouTube means the studio doesn?t have to go through the exercise of making the video an ?age-restricted? posting on its official site. (The trailer directs viewers to an official site, www.dragontattoo.com, that doesn?t appear to be operational yet.)

Finally, an under-the-radar viral campaign would be in keeping with Salander?s own renegade spirit, since she?s a master of manipulating the web.

A Sony spokesman could not be immediately reached for comment as the mystery deepens.

Black Child to Black Woman is a ?live diary? experience that will grab your attention right from the start. Tara Walker speaks directly to the reader as she adds entry after entry into her Journal. She documents her experiences, her family life, her triumphs, as well as her interpretation of life and the world as she saw it. As she grows, so does the language and tone of the diary, which matches her maturity and speech patterns as the time passes. Experiences are mere images engraved in our minds that we recall when future events occur such as a tragedy or even when a song is playing on the radio. Tara has captured those moments in time in her diary, even the painful ones. Although she came from a loving home with both parents, she struggled to come to grips with siblings addicted to drugs, molestation, attempted rape, broken hearts, and so much more. Her diary experiences will make you laugh, cry, scream, sigh, and gasp aloud. As Tara struggles to keep her head above water and fight through the tribulations of her life, she continues to smile, continues to grow as a person, continues to be successful in her career, and continues to survive. Cheryl McNeil (pen name, Cheryl D. Bannerman, her birth name) is CEO of a small virtual training company based out of Central New Jersey. She holds a Bachelors in Business Management and a Masters in Project Management. She is also the (divorced) single mother of a beautiful eleven year old girl.

In her spare time she loves to read murder mysteries, watch movies, try new restaurants and cuisines, shop with her daughter, and in the summer, walk the boardwalk and take in the sun on the beach. Although her works are fiction, she has incorporated many of her life?s experiences into her stories.

I loved the way this book was written?like a journal.? It was like taking a step right into Tara Walker?s life from when she was 9 until she is in her 30?s.? I got to read all of her deepest thoughts?things that probably not many people in her life knew about.? The only thing I thought was kind of strange is that she was writing in her journal at graduation, but I guess it could happen?

Tara is a comical little girl.? She talks about mom being mad at her dad for drinking ?acka-hall (that?s a bad drink)? p. 2.? I just felt like I was right there with her going through the events of her life.? She had ups and down in her life, but she was always such a positive spirit! She really went through some pretty heavy situations like her brothers being into drugs, being molested. and just the other events that a girl goes through.

I would definitely recommend this book.? It?s a nice and quick book to read.? I liked the way the book was put in journal format and it went from playing dressup, to losing virginity, to being a grown woman. Not too mention the author has such a cool name!

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced two steps that will help modernize America?s health care delivery system by encouraging doctors, hospitals, and other health care providers to adopt and meaningfully use health information technology. Under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, providers are receiving incentive payments through both the Medicare and Medicaid Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Programs for the meaningful use of certified EHR technology. The proposed rule for the Electronic Prescribing Incentive Program released today would give more flexibility to providers who are adopting electronic prescribing systems.

?We can bring America?s health care system into the 21st century by adopting electronic health records and using electronic prescribing systems,? said CMS Administrator Donald M. Berwick, MD. ?Today?s announcements are steps on the right path ? toward the health IT system America needs, which will save lives, save money, and save time.?

These two programs give providers new options and incentives to use health IT to improve care for their patients, which can improve patient health and lower costs.

* On May 19, 2011, the Medicare EHR Incentive Program issued the first round of payments totaling $75 million to providers who signed up in the first two weeks of the program.

* Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs are being implemented on a State by State basis. Since January 2011, fifteen States have initiated their Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs and to date, over $83 million in incentive payments has been made to qualified Medicaid providers.

?Through the EHR incentive programs, we are helping eligible providers invest in their technology infrastructure,? said Farzad Mostashari, MD, ScM., National Coordinator for Health Information Technology.

?But this isn?t just about technology. The goal is better and safer health care, and that means it?s about patients ? about their health care and protection of their information.?

* The Electronic Prescribing Incentive Program today announced proposals for new flexibilities to help providers phase in the use of electronic prescription technology. This program provides financial incentives, including payment adjustments beginning January 1, 2012, for eligible providers to encourage electronic prescribing. The proposals announced today would provide exemptions from the payment adjustment for providers who plan to participate in the program but who face certain barriers to using electronic prescribing systems or meeting program requirements that may be beyond their control.

?Today?s rule demonstrates that CMS is willing to work cooperatively with the medical professional community to encourage, participation in electronic prescribing,? said Patrick Conway, MD, MSc, CMS Chief Medical Officer and Director of the CMS Office of Clinical Standards and Quality. ?These proposed changes will continue to encourage adoption of electronic prescribing while acknowledging circumstances that may keep health professionals from realizing the full potential of these systems right away.?

These efforts are part of a broader effort by the Obama Administration to improve care and lower costs, including through new initiatives established by the Health Information Technology Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH), part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
